Title: Remote Commercial HVAC Estimator

Schedule: Remote/Full-Time - Pacific Time (PT)

Location: Latin America

Compensation: $2,000–$2,500/month, depending on experience

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is an owner-operated commercial HVAC and mechanical contracting business based in Kirkland, Washington, serving commercial construction projects in the Seattle area. The company operates with a lean team and values accuracy, accountability, and practical collaboration.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Senior Commercial HVAC Estimator to take ownership of estimating for commercial HVAC projects. This individual will be responsible for reviewing construction drawings and specifications, performing detailed material takeoffs, developing accurate cost estimates, and supporting bid preparation.

The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience estimating commercial HVAC systems, understands U.S. construction standards, and can work independently in a remote environment while collaborating directly with the business owner.

This role requires dedicated commercial HVAC estimating experience. Residential estimating or general mechanical estimating experience alone will not meet the requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform detailed material takeoffs for commercial HVAC projects using blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specifications.

- Read, interpret, and analyze mechanical plans, equipment schedules, and project documentation.

- Estimate quantities for HVAC ductwork, equipment, piping, fittings, insulation, accessories, and other applicable system components.

- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial bid submissions.

- Calculate material quantities, labor requirements, equipment costs, and other relevant project expenses.

- Review project specifications and applicable U.S. construction standards to ensure estimates reflect the required scope.

- Identify scope gaps, conflicting information, missing details, and potential cost risks.

- Document estimating assumptions, exclusions, and items requiring clarification.

- Coordinate with the business owner and other relevant stakeholders regarding project scope, pricing, and bid strategy.

- Review estimates for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before submission.

- Work within the company's existing estimating systems, tools, and workflows.

REQUIREMENTS

- 10+ years of estimating experience, with substantial hands-on experience specifically in commercial HVAC estimating.

- Proven experience estimating commercial HVAC projects for contractors or commercial mechanical firms.

- Strong ability to interpret commercial construction drawings, mechanical plans, equipment schedules, and technical specifications.

- Demonstrated experience performing HVAC material takeoffs and preparing cost estimates independently.

- Working knowledge of U.S. commercial construction standards, applicable mechanical codes, and project specifications.

- Understanding of HVAC materials, installation methods, labor estimating, and commercial bid preparation.

- Proficiency with relevant estimating and takeoff software, such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Trimble, or comparable tools.

- Strong English communication skills, including the ability to explain estimating methodology and technical decisions clearly.

- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a remote environment.

- Availability to work full-time during Pacific Time business hours.

- Willingness to complete a practical technical assessment as part of the interview process.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Previous experience working with U.S.-based commercial HVAC contractors or mechanical subcontractors.

- Experience with commercial construction projects such as offices, retail facilities, warehouses, or other commercial buildings.

- Experience with firms such as WSP or similar commercial mechanical or engineering organizations, provided the candidate has direct HVAC estimating experience.

- Familiarity with HVAC estimating workflows, vendor quotations, labor units, and bid documentation.

- Ability to provide redacted samples of previous HVAC takeoffs or estimates demonstrating a clear and systematic methodology.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

The successful candidate will produce accurate, complete, and well-documented commercial HVAC estimates, proactively identify scope gaps and pricing risks, and work independently while maintaining clear communication with the business owner.
