Job brief:

Our Consumer business — weather.com, The Weather Channel app, Storm Radar, Weather Underground, and the advertising business that runs across them — is our largest and fastest-moving. It's where hundreds of millions of people meet the brand.

We're hiring a Senior Manager of Consumer Communications to serve as the dedicated communications business partner to that business. This role is part of The Weather Company's Integrated Communications team, reporting to the VP, Integrated Communications, and will sit with Consumer leadership in New York. You'll be embedded in how the business plans, launches, and leads — close enough to the work to shape it, and connected to the full communications function so Consumer gets the whole team behind it.

The anchor of the job is internal. Consumer is growing and changing fast, and the strategy behind that change needs to be sharpened into something people can repeat: clear objectives, clear expectations for how the organization works, and a through-line connecting the day-to-day to where the business is going. This is the first role dedicated to that work for Consumer, and you'll build it alongside the leaders who own the strategy.

From there, the job expands outward. You'll own the communications strategy for our biggest go-to-market and product moments and define the story Consumer takes to market — bringing a recommendation rather than a menu of options, and keeping launches moving when decisions stall. The external work isn't a separate job; it's the same narrative, told to a different audience.

This role covers the full Consumer portfolio, including our advertising business — so you'll be as comfortable with consumer tech and lifestyle press as with the ad and ad-tech trades.

This is an individual contributor role with high visibility and currently no direct reports.

The impact you'll make:

As the communications business partner to Consumer

• Serve as senior communications counsel to Consumer leadership — in the room for planning, honest about what will and won't land, and persistent about getting to a decision on schedule.

• Run a process and approval rhythm that keeps work moving: clear recommendations, clear deadlines, and the confidence to push senior stakeholders for the feedback a launch needs.

• Bring the disciplines together — product and lifestyle marketing, PR, social, events, content, executive visibility, and internal communications — so the business gets one integrated plan instead of assembling it themselves.

Internally — the anchor of the role

• Partner with Consumer leadership to sharpen the business strategy into a narrative people can repeat — pressure-testing what's clear, naming what isn't, and turning it into language the organization can use. The business owns the strategy; you make sure it's understood.

• Keep objectives and expectations unambiguous as they evolve — what people are working toward, how the organization works, and how it approaches problems.

• Own the internal communications strategy for the Consumer organization end to end, including the cadence, channels, and rhythm that hold it together.

• Lead Consumer all-hands and leadership forums: the narrative arc, the run of show, the speakers, the follow-through.

• Counsel and prepare Consumer leaders as internal communicators — the announcements, the org changes, the moments where how something is said matters as much as what's said.

• Bring the work to life internally through storytelling — the product wins, the customer moments, the people behind them — so the team sees its own impact.

• Keep a large, fast-moving organization informed through change, in partnership with our enterprise internal communications team so Consumer connects to the broader company narrative.

Externally — where the role expands

• Own the communications strategy for Consumer’s biggest go-to-market and product moments, from kickoff through post-launch.

• Define the story we want told about Consumer and the priorities behind it, then partner closely with our external communications lead and agency, who drive media relations and placement.

• Partner with Product and Lifecycle Marketing on product and feature launches, where they own audience, value proposition, and conversion messaging, and you own the story we tell the market and the press about why it matters.

• Build external visibility for Consumer leaders in partnership with our strategic and executive communications lead.

Across both

• Keep one narrative. What we tell the team about where the business is going and why should be recognizably the same story we tell the market — adapted for the audience, not invented separately.

• Measure what matters — whether employees can articulate the strategy and their objectives, and whether the stories we chose to tell are landing the way we intended — and use it to sharpen the next plan.

What you've accomplished:

• 6+ years in communications, with the majority in consumer or consumer technology — app, subscription, media, or platform businesses.

• Run integrated communications — internal and external together — for a company, a business unit, or a major product line. This role is that job for our largest business.

• Worked directly with a leadership team to turn a strategy into a narrative people can repeat, and kept an organization oriented through real change: reorgs, leadership transitions, shifts in how the business works.

• Owned internal communications as a core part of the job rather than an occasional add-on — all-hands, leadership counsel, the full cadence.

• Owned the communications strategy for major product launches or brand moments end to end, with results you can point to.

• Can find the story and change how it's told across audiences — employees, leaders, executives, press — without losing the thread that connects them.

• Strong editorial judgment about what's genuinely earned-media worthy and what isn't — and the credibility to say so to a business partner.

• Worked effectively through a communications partner or agency: clear about the story you want told and the standard for the work, without needing to place every story yourself.

• Comfort in a fast-moving, still-forming environment, with the instinct to build the process rather than wait for one — and genuine interest in owning this work for a business at this scale.

• Experience with an ad-supported business or the advertising trades. (Preferred)
