The Role
Your Role
As a Mainframe CICS System Programmer, you’ll use your CICS expertise to help run, maintain and evolve the transaction processing environments that support customers’ mission-critical applications.
You’ll work hands-on across IBM CICS Transaction Server environments, maintaining CICS regions and CICSplex infrastructure and helping ensure services remain available, performant and resilient. Your work will range from day-to-day system programming and production support to planned maintenance, upgrades, migrations and disaster recovery activities.
When issues arise, you’ll investigate availability, performance and transaction processing problems, identify root causes and work with other mainframe specialists to restore and improve services. You’ll also work across technologies connected to CICS, including IBM MQ, Db2, VSAM, RACF and z/OS services, giving you a broad view of how critical applications operate across the mainframe environment.
There’s also an opportunity to contribute to how these environments evolve. As customers modernise and integrate mainframe systems within hybrid IT environments, you’ll support changes to CICS infrastructure and may work with technologies such as CICS Web Services, APIs and Java integration. Your focus will remain practical: maintaining reliable environments today while helping make them ready for what customers need next
What You Will Do

• Manage CICSplex: Support CICSplex and multi-region environments, including infrastructure configuration, workload management and operational health.
• Protect availability: Monitor transaction processing environments, investigate availability or performance issues and implement appropriate resolution.
• Maintain systems: Plan and support CICS maintenance, upgrades and migrations, including IBM fixes and related system changes.
• Connect technologies: Support CICS integration with IBM MQ, Db2, VSAM, RACF and other z/OS services
• Improve performance: Analyse CICS performance, workloads and capacity using relevant monitoring and diagnostic tools to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Strengthen resilience: Support disaster recovery exercises and readiness activities to help maintain resilient CICS environments.
• Support modernisation: Contribute to CICS modernisation activities such as Web Services, API enablement and Java integration where required.
